    δίνει

Incidentally, in case you're wondering, I meant subject - υποκειμενο (και όχι ουσιαστικό). The subject noun, at least.

Just so we understand ... Νομίζω εννοείς τετραδικό σύστημα (a quaternary coding system - i.e., one using a base-4 numeral system - and not a 4 digit system - unless the 4 digits you're referring to are 0, 1, 2 and 3, I suppose ? - It's just that a 4 digit coding system could also - or would...

The purrrfect thread. Because nobody's purrrfect, unless they're a cat.

That's a good one, daeman! Ο συνειρμός με οδήγησε σε αυτό το βίντεο (το θυμήθηκα - and apologies if it's already been posted) "I fall, therefore I can (survive)" - (and the longer the fall, the better). Here's a NY Times article...

    αύριο βγαίνει

There is some symmetry here with "it’ll come out tomorrow", meaning the draw/results will come out tomorrow = "αύριο βγαίνει (η κλήρωση)". Similarly not the best English; but it’s more than acceptable (in English, anyway).

    όσο/ ώσπου να πεις κύμινο

+1... Την ίδια σκέψη είχα- αλλά δίσταζα επειδή υπάρχει και το " he/she (someone) didn't say boo..." , which refers to someone who's shying/has shied away from expressing themselves, their feelings; keeping tight lipped. Αλλά, τώρα που το ανέφερες - ναι, συμφωνώ! And I'm sure I've both used it...

    Πρωτομαγιά

I hope it helps, Theseus. I'm not sure how many "you do this and then that happens" examples actually come up .. but the search "ακους εκει να" will always bring up examples you can study, and then as an exercise you can see if the "ακους εκει"/ can you believe" part can be omitted by...

    Πρωτομαγιά

Theseus I'm not sure if I'm making a valid observation, but anyway as an aid to understanding and making sense of the tricky subjunctive "να", you'll find that you can generate a lot of examples by googling "ακούς εκεί να" where the word immediately following "να" will invariably be a verb ...

The tone is one of resignation (grinning and bearing it), I think. But credit where's it's due - I think he's tried to suggest (at least subtly and perhaps sarcastically) to the children to desist or at least think twice next time (perhaps hoping that they will reflect back on this exchange and...

    απιστία περί την υπηρεσία

I note that the civil servants are referred to as "public fiduciaries", below - and that they have both a duty of care and a duty of loyalty obligation to fulfill. So it appears the breach of (public) trust in the case of a civil servant misappropriating funds for his or her benefit would more...

    απιστία περί την υπηρεσία

Happy New Year, cougr. In terms of a clear and obvious fiduciary/client relationship (a lawyer/client or trustee/beneficiary, for instance), it would be a "breach of fiduciary duty of loyalty" on the part of the fiduciary, you're right. (and it might be worth noting that the "breach of loyalty"...

"swindling civil servant" has a nice sibilance - suits a headline. I'll suggest it to my son when he does his next mike sound check, before his next gig fraudulent civil servant?
