In this sentence, why is του πουν used, since it seems always to be the form of λέω used in dependent clauses? Όποιος δεν ξέρει και του πουν puzzles me? :down:

In the above song there is one line which reads φωτιά τον κόσμον πέρασαν. What exactly does φωτιά περνάω mean? I would understand it if it were πήραν. Does it mean 'they [the cannons] have left the world ablaze '/'have passed by a world on fire'?:rolleyes::blush:

As to the Pentozalis the dance is out of this world! I wrongly thought that in Corfu the men in the dances I looked at were doing simple, almost random steps, unlike the women whose movements were well rehearsed & beautiful.

What are the words to the Pentozalis? I have found a Mantinada, which runs as follows:- Αν θες να μάθεις των Σφακιω ο τόπος ίντα βγάνει (meaning of βγάνει here?) πες στσι Μαδάρες να σου πουν για τον Δασκαλογιάννη (who are these?) What are the words sung in this video, referred to by Palavra:-

Thanks, Palavra. I noticed in some videos that there were men (usually) who seemed to be in charge of the choreography & going around giving instructions & taking photographs during the performance. So cultural fossils though they are, they seem well worth preserving.

Thanks, Παλ-αύρα. I find these traditional folk songs & dances fascinating, though it must be said that older videos of the dances seem more spontaneous & less stylised. But this is not intended as a criticism, only an observation. Perhaps, though, this observation is wrong! :)
