Thanks, dominotheory. Αφού ανέφερες την "αντιμετώπιση"(μπορεί να ταιριάζει καλύτερα; ). Νομίζω σε κάθε "encounter" υπάρχει μια αίσθηση εναντίωσης/αντιμετώπισης, αν θέλεις (αυτό μας υποδεικνύει το "encounter") . Δεν πρόκειται για κάτι το φιλικό ή άνετο.

Πέρα από το συγκεκριμένο πλαίσιο της παρούσας συζήτησης ... Νομίζω το "encounter" (του "repeated encounter") ενέχει την έννοια της "αναμέτρησης" ... a difficult meeting and struggle (either mental or physical) with an unknown outcome - a head-to-head/face-off/showdown ... it's how I sense it...

I agree with dr7fold - "manifest" here does not mean "overt/disclosed" (i.e., I don't think that "manifest destiny" is an "openly stated/declared" policy, etc). I think "manifest" here implies a "clear" (right) or an "entitlement" - as in an "indisputable/undeniable" right (to expand). ...

Also, perhaps ... she "had them eating out of her hand" or "had them in the palm of her hand". hand/knee/fingers/guile/charms ... it's all the same - she "played them" and "led them on" having first "charmed the pants off them".

I agree, and it’s how I know the term (and the way it’s being used), too. But “chill” wasn’t cutting it for some reason ... so I thought I’d spice it up with an adjective and/or look for some alternatives. “racking” apart from “distressing”, can also imply “pain” .... as in “racking...

My initial thought too ...chill= ψύξη, but chill had already been mentioned in this thread and we were still looking for alternatives.., as ψύξη always had a pain association, according to Alexandra and palavra, and others? Maybe “racking chill” for ψυξη? ... for a chill with pain in the...

..υπαρχουν πιο πολλα αποτελσμετα για το "racking headache" ή το "racking migraine", βεβαια .... αλλα υπαρχουν αρκετα νομιζω για το "racking cold" και το "racking flu" (και δεν εψαξα τα πληθυντικα - "racking colds" και "racking flus").
