A lady criticised my dog this morning for approaching her very small dog of some miniature breed. My dog hadn't done anything to her 'dog' except being friendly. She said:" Get that bloody dog of yours off mine at once!"
In irritation I replied: "That's not a dog but a rat on a string". She was so taken aback by this rejoinder that she was stuck for a reply. What is the Greek for 'a rat on a string'? I spent the rest of the walk trying to translate this conversation into Greek. I came up with this:-
-"Πάρ' αμέσως εκείνο το βρωμόσκυλο από πάνω το σκυλάκι μου!"
-"Αυτό δεν είναι σκυλάκι, είναι αρουραίος με λουράκι!"
Is it passable or poor Greek ? Or would I have to use, instead of αρουραίος a disparaging word like μισοριξιά, απολειφάδι, σαμιαμίδι; can anyone suggest any corrections?
