That’s interesting ....I just noticed that verga (slang, vulgar) refers to a shaft, but a different type of shaft, in another language. I’ll leave it at that.
Virga is Latin for ράβδος. The Italian verga came from it and we created βέργα from the Italian. So I thought we might keep βέργα for the meteorological phenomenon rather than hypocritically calling it ράβδος.
