When the English-speaking world uses survey in the sense of examining people’s opinions, they may use the word with two slightly different meanings within the same context. The more general term refers to the study which records and analyses the opinions of a group of people, while the more specific term refers to the questionnaire used by the survey to record people’s answers or reactions to a number of questions or statements. People complete or fill out these surveys (questionnaires).
When we translate into Greek, we may have to switch from the one sense to the other and translate accordingly: έρευνα for “survey” when it means the whole study and ερωτηματολόγιο when it refers to the questionnaire.
