Hello there,
I would like to ask you the origin of the Polatidis as surname (or its unhellenized version Polatoglou) among the Greek families.
All i know is, it is a Persian originated word which means steel. And mostly it was given to the families/men who lived in eastern Pontos and areas close to the Sivas, Erzincan, Erzurum. Also, I have heard that there are families with Polatidis surname whose grandmothers-fathers are from Giresun (Κερασους), Gumushane (Αργυρόπολις), Bayburt, Sivas (Σεβαστεια) regions. Additionally, there are Turkish families with Polat surname who are mostly from Sivas, Erzincan, Erzurum, Trabzon, or close areas to them.
So, I am looking for persons with the Polatidis surname, and want to know where their families originated from and why they were given that surname.
Thank you
