Για όλα τον έχω ικανό = “I see him capable of anything”, which is close in meaning (and it’s more natural, as you point out).

Το “ήταν αναμενόμενο” - means what you said; but I meant it from the point of view that the wayward behaviour of the person concerned ( this loose cannon who’s capable of anything) - that “it’s par for the course”/ hardly surprising/ only to be expected, seeing it’s coming from them (the person they’ve shown themselves to be).

First time I've heard of the modal verb - but in any case, it's obvious to me now that there was a modal verb there "I wouldn't put it past him", which I've ignored.
