Καλημέρα σε όλες και όλους. Μήπως μπορείτε να ρίξετε κάποια ιδέα για το fabless (όσο πιο γρήγορα μπορείτε, γιατί το κείμενο πρέπει να παραδοθεί σε λίγο); Ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ!

In the semiconductor industry, a fabless company specializes in the design, development and sale of semiconductor chips, but does not manufacture them. Rather than make the semiconductor chips themselves, fabless companies prefer to outsource chip building to a separate company that specializes this high-tech manufacturing. By using this type of business strategy, a fabless company is able to avoid the high costs involved with building and operating its own manufacturing facility and can instead devote the majority of its time and resources to research and development. Many of the products that consumers commonly use today in computers, music players and cell phones, for example, have been brought to market by a fabless company.

Το "εταιρεία χωρίς τμήμα παραγωγής" μια χαρά μού ακούγεται, και πολύ απλό.

Αν όμως παρουσιάζεις μια εταιρεία και λες ότι "είναι η κορυφαία fabless εταιρεία σχεδίασης τάδε στον τομέα τάδε", δεν κολλάει καλά το "χωρίς τμήμα παραγωγής" ή το "μη κατασκευάστρια". Είναι σαν να της δίνεις ένα μικρό αρνητικό πρόσημο μέσα στα τόσα θετικά (ξέρω ότι το fabless δεν είναι ούτε αρνητικό ούτε θετικό, απλώς λέω ότι στα Ελληνικά ακούγεται περίεργο το "είναι η κορυφαία μη κατασκευάστρια εταιρεία σχεδίασης μικροτσίπ στον τομέα των ασύρματων επικοινωνιών" ή ό,τι παρόμοιο).

Fabless

Semiconductor manufacturers have two possible approaches to making their products. They can either build and run their own manufacturing plants, or restrict themselves to designing chips that are then made by others. The former was once the more usual method, involving the construction and operation of extremely expensive factories (called silicon foundries in the jargon) which are capable of the high standards of precision and cleanliness required to make these complex circuits. Many of these plants were sited in places, often in foreign countries where wage rates and other costs were low or grants were available and were usually restricted to manufacture of components with no research or design facilities. These became known in the business as fabs, short for “fabrication plants”. More recently, some companies — especially the smaller ones — have begun to select the other route to manufacture, because they have discovered they can innovate more effectively and bring products to market more quickly if they contract out the production stages to a foundry. Such firms are said to be fabless. This group now has its own trade association, the Fabless Semiconductor Association.

Σωστά το λες. Αλλά, όταν λέμε "εταιρεία σχεδίασης" δεν είναι κάπως αυτονόητο ότι δεν παράγει, μόνο σχεδιάζει; Άρα μπορεί να παραλειφθεί το fabless.

Τότε μην εστιάσεις εκεί. Εστίασε στο θετικό, όπως το έχεις: Η κορυφαία εταιρεία σχεδίασης, η κορυφαία στον μη ή στον προ- κατασκευαστικό τομέα, τέτοια.

Ξέρω ότι δεν βοηθάει στο ζητούμενο, επειδή βλέπει το θέμα από την άλλη πλευρά, του εργολήπτη, αλλά αυτή η διαδικασία δεν είναι το κλασικό φασόν, η σχεδίαση του προϊόντος από κάποιον και η ανάθεση της κατασκευής του σε άλλον;
