Εδώ και ώρα ψάχνω το cyclone bed. Το μόνο που έχω βρει από εικόνα είναι αυτή, εδώ.


Many years of my early life were spent sleeping under the stars, on a bedroll, or a cyclone bed as a shearer. Your bedding should be rolled up as soon as you climb out of it. Left unrolled any manner of biting animals are likely to find it comfortable too. Not so bad if they are lizards, but scorpions and snakes are generally not welcome bedfellows. My unkempt bundle on the cyclone bed is off the ground, and although untidy, it is unlikely to become filled with 'nasties'. One should at least pull the canvas over the blankets to keep some of the dust and crap out of it.

Στην αρχή νόμισα ότι αυτό το cyclone bed αναφερόταν σε μια έκταση μεταφερόμενης άμμου, που προέκυψε από ένα φαινόμενο κατά το οποίο η άμμος είχε αρθεί και παρασυρθεί από την αρχική τοποθεσία της, από έναν κυκλώνα (που σάρωσε την περιοχή στο μακρινό παρελθόν, ή πιο πρόσφατα; ), και επανατοποθετήθηκε στην καινούργια (τωρινή) τοποθεσία, ίσως 100 χιλιόμετρα μακριά;
Δεν είμαι σίγουρος, πάντως.

The men claim that they were told in the south that full accommodation would be provided and the only things they needed to bring were their personal effects and blankets. On arrival, they were herded into a couple of houses badly in need of renovation and already occupied by railway workers smarting under long-standing grievances.

NO MATTRESSES

Palliasses there - yes, the cyclone bed things with palliasses and blankets, with the palliasses and blankets having to be folded up every time. And, of course, that again was not so easy when you are doing shift work, some of those things.

Από την εποχή και τους χώρους που αναφέρεται, υποθέτω κάτι σαν τα παλιά, φτηνά κρεβάτια με σομιέ, ένα ξύλινο ή μεταλλικό τελάρο με το συρμάτινο πλέγμα μέσα, χωρίς το στρώμα. Όπως οι κουκέτες στους στρατιωτικούς θαλάμους.

Γι' αυτήν εδώ τη χρήση της αυτοσχέδιας στρωμνής, στρωσίδι μάλλον θα το έλεγα, εκτός αν βρήκε κανένα τέτοιο πεταμένο στην κοίτη του ξεροπόταμου ο φυγάς και το αξιοποίησε δεόντως.

Ναι, ήδη από το #3 και το #4, στη μετάφρασή τους έχουν προτείνει το ράντζο η Μπέρνι και ο Άζι.

This would have been my next guess, Alexandra... that it uses/incorporates cyclone fencing - but I saw that everyone was already on the right track.
Now you could ask the kind gentleman to explain the cryptic lyrics - the "season of the lullin"...and "rolling on the run".

το πολυδιαφημισμένο Macquarie των Αυστραλών δεν περιέχει τίποτα σχετικά με το θέμα.

Άρα είναι όντως brand name το Cyclone. H εταιρεία που το κατασκευάζει είναι στη Νέα Ζηλανδία, και έτσι εξηγείται γιατί αυτή η ονομασία είναι άγνωστη εκτός Αυστραλίας.

Μπράβο, Άλεξ. Δεν είχα ώρα να ψάξω να τους βρω. Απ' όλα φτιάχνουν, από deer fence μέχρι «chainlink, panel fence, netting and barb wire products» — μόνο chicken wire δεν αναφέρουν. Και μάλλον δεν έφτιαχναν αυτοί τα ράντζα. Απλώς έδωσαν το όνομα στα συρματόπλεγμα των ράντζων.
