A cooling tower is a tall, open-topped, cylindrical concrete tower, used for cooling water or condensing steam from an industrial process. When I was in Greece on a school trip, I asked the coach driver what the Greek was for the above, since we saw some in the distance & he replied that they were simply called πύργος.

Πύργος ψύξης is the official term.

Thanks, SBE. My dictionary gave ψυκτικός πύργος which didn't ring true in the light of terms like ψυκτικός θάλαμος. :)
