A burl (American English) or bur or burr (UK English) is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds.
It is much bigger than a ρόζος. Here is an image:

Θησέα, αυτά τα εξογκώματα στα δέντρα είναι δύο ειδών και λέγονται λούποι και φύτρες. Οι λούποι νομίζω ότι είναι τα λεία εξογκώματα και οι φύτρες (σφαιροβλάστες ή σφαιροβλαστοί επίσης, αν δεν κάνω λάθος) έχουν ανώμαλη επιφάνεια.
Δεν μπορώ να δω καλά την εικόνα που έβαλες επειδή η οθόνη του κινητού μου είναι της κακιάς ώρας, άλλα αυτό μάλλον είναι φύτρα. Γίνονται κάποια έπιπλα από αυτά και μουσικά όργανα νομίζω.

Και στις ελιές υπάρχουν κάποια παρόμοια που μάλλον λέγονται γόγγροι, αλλά δεν ξέρω αν είναι το ίδιο ή αν είναι μικρότερα που μοιάζουν με τα παραπάνω.

Thank you both for all this fascinating information. Γόγγρος, Neikos, on olive trees is indeed like the burl but a smaller version, caused differently, and found all over the tree. This disease is incurable. Here is a picture if Neikos's mobile can get a decent image:-
