Αφού τέθηκε το ζήτημα της απόδοσης του as such, δεν φτάνει η απάντηση στα ερωτήματα του Θησέα. Με ενδιαφέρει η απόδοση του as such σε δοκιμιακό λόγο (κείμενα φιλοσοφικά, κοινωνικοπολιτικά κτλ.). Η σημασία είναι αυτή που δίνει με πολύ απλά λόγια το Collins Cobuild: "You use as such after a noun to indicate that you are considering that thing on its own, separately from other things or factors". Παραθέτω κάποια πραγματικά παραδείγματα από τον Άνταμ Σμιθ, την αγγλική μετάφραση του Μαρξ, τον Κέινς και άλλους (με μπόνους το τελευταίο, που είναι του Πόε). Τα παραδείγματα βέβαια παρατίθενται μόνο σαν πηγή έμπνευσης, όχι για να ψάξουμε να βρούμε τι θα ταίριαζε καλύτερα στην κάθε περίπτωση:
1. A dwelling-house, as such, contributes nothing to the revenue of its inhabitant
2. But a creditor of the public, considered merely as such, has no interest in the good condition of any particular portion of land, or in the good management of any particular portion of capital stock.

Η απόδοση του as such είναι κάτι που με κάνει να κοντοστέκομαι εδώ και δεκαετίες. Ένας λόγος βέβαια είναι ότι αντιστέκομαι ακόμα στο σαν τέτοιο (ομολογουμένως όχι πάντα μέχρι τέλους), αν και αναγνωρίζω την ανάγκη στην οποία ανταποκρίνεται. Ακόμα και τώρα όμως δεν μου φαίνεται τόσο ελληνικό, μάλλον όζει μεταφράσεως. Και αν κάποιος δεν έχει σαν λύση by default το σαν τέτοιο, δεν βλέπω να μπορεί να έχει λύση by default. Θα με ενδιέφεραν λοιπόν οι εμπειρίες και προτιμήσεις των συλλεξιλόγων, με ειδική μνεία στο πώς αντιλαμβάνονται και πόσο αγαπούν ή μισούν το σαν τέτοιο. Από την πλευρά μου, αρκούμαι προς το παρόν σε μια απαρίθμηση λύσεων (σε ουδέτερο γένος, για να μη μπλέξω με φυλετικές διαμάχες!) που μου έρχονται τώρα στο μυαλό και που τις έχω χρησιμοποιήσει όλες, αν και με διαφορετική συχνότητα:
- σαν τέτοιο
- το ίδιο το...
- από μόνο του
- καθαυτό (στην κοινή χρήση του, χωρίς οντολογικές προεκτάσεις)
- [με επανάληψη του ουσιαστικού:] το Χ σαν Χ
- αυτοτελώς [π.χ. Το Χ δεν συνιστά αυτοτελώς...]
