ψήνω καφεδάκι

Is this phrase common for φτιάχνω καφεδάκι? Or is it equivalent to 'brew a coffee'? Or would βράζω mean to brew? I came across the phrase in a book of exercises, by a Cypriot teacher & lecturer--Dr Kypros Tofallis. It seems an unnatural phrase:-
'Τους έψησα καφεδάκι και μπήκαν αμέσως στο θέμα', δηλ. το ότι εκείνη τη μέρα το πρωί πέθανε ο Σάββας στο νοσοκομείο.

It is common with regard to Greek coffee.

We say "ψήνω καφέ" because the "Greek" coffee was traditionally best prepared in ember. "Βραστοί καφέδες" is usually European stuff and so, not embedded in the language.

«Βάζω καφέ» might signify that the coffee is ready and I'm pouring it in cups or that I'm ready to start preparing it.

"Κάνω/φτιάχνω καφέ" (make a coffee) was an absolute synonym of «ψήνω καφέ», but now sometimes you have to specify:

-- Κάνω καφέ, κάτσε...
-- Ελληνικό;
-- Όχι, φίλτρο.
-- Ουφ, με τα νεροπλύματα...

Nevertheless, one of the myriad variations of Greek coffee is the simple "βραστός"... :)

Thanks very much for your detailed notes, good Dr. I remember that it said in a very recent newspaper article that the longevity of many Greek islanders was because of the coffee they prepared, although the reference was to traditional boiled coffee. It was further suggested that Greek people took much longer about drinking their coffee than most city Europeans. This could also account for the very much reduced stress levels in islands like Ikaria. By the way, for νερόπλυματα we use the term 'gnat's piss'.
