Εδώ στα μέρη μας, στην προκειμένη περίπτωση, συχνά λέμε "I was bludging/ I bludged".

Ενέχει και το στοιχείο του "pass the buck"/"wash my hands of it"/"let someone else worry about it" (αν ψάχνουμε για παρόμοια φράση).
"Instead of doing my homework, I was washing (or I washed) my hands of it." (and I passed the buck to the "rooster"/someone who cares ... they work well in tandem).

I think that when the term "φορτώνω" is coupled with "κόκορα" it loses its connotations of blame and responsibility shifting. Although the phrase "τα φορτώνω στον κόκκορα" may relate to responsibility and can imply a lack of responsibility, it isn't generally used in the sense of blame games or to the passing/attribution of responsibility to others (or, as the phrase may suggest, to the "κόκορα").

Yes, that's what I understood after researching the phrase's origin. Interestingly, one account I came across linked it to cockfighting, where money was pinned to a rooster - a sort of "passing the buck." The implication was that you were giving up on any hope of succeeding in a task, losing interest, and leaving the outcome to chance ... phrases like "leaving it to fate"/"calling it a day"/"throwing in the towel" come to mind.
