13 Mantinades from Crete- request for the original Greek

I've found 12/13 & gone through them. One of my favourites is this, which seems to be omitted. Sounds a bit like Shakespeare:- Heart, break. Flesh, decompose. And Soul, desert the body’s frame. Since you denied me, go back to the dirt from which you came Anyone know the original

13 Mantinades from Crete- request for the original Greek

Thanks, Neikos. I tried to access this site but when I did my iPad registered Error 404. I can get it now: I have my Mantinades!:):)

13 Mantinades from Crete- request for the original Greek

This is probably for our expert on Mantinades, Daeman. Do you or anyone know the original for some of these 13 Mantinades. 'Man will know most of them but I will be content with the best of them! Mantinades FROM COUPLETS SENT BY SMS FROM YORGOS VITTOROS, MAYOR OF KYPARISSI Whose...

Μες στην καρδιά μου ένα πουλί

Thanks, Earion.:) Again the punctuation is faulty. There should be a question mark at the end of the second line.

Μες στην καρδιά μου ένα πουλί

What exactly does this verse mean in the song 'Inside your black hair'? Μες στην καρδιά μου ένα πουλί δε βλέπεις πώς σπαράζει κι αν κελαηδεί κι αν κελαηδεί το λιώνει το μαράζι Inside my heart a bird/You don't see how it trembles/And if it sings and if it sings/it melts the...

    Four clichés in English

Thanks for finishing off my four clichés, Nickel & Lina. :) I enjoyed the banter too. Is the problem that Nickel's is too polite & too much of a gentleman....
  8. Theseus

    Heretically/ heresy!

Thanks, Nickel, for this reply & the ODE reference. :)

    ice queen

    Thanks.:)
  10. Theseus

    Heretically/ heresy!

I like the song, Neikos. A good illustration of the word αιρετικό. You seem to like this sort of quirky song, like the science fiction song Ανδρομέδα!:):)
  11. Theseus

    Heretically/ heresy!

Thanks, 'Man. So be careful with αίρεση as a noun. Could I say then τι σκέτη αίρεση! or αίρεση σκέτη! as a parenthetical exclamation/interjection; :)
  12. Theseus

    Heretically/ heresy!

I tried to say in Greek that I preferred listening to Maria Zoe's rendering of η απαγωγή by Mikis Theodorakis than that of Mairi Linda. See:- Healthwise/talentwise/jobwise/moneywise & other aberrations #17. In parenthesis I suggested that that view was perhaps 'heretical' & called my view...

    ice queen

Thanks, Irini! What are the ruder & more derogatory terms for letter γ; :)
  14. Theseus

    ice queen

An ice queen can be one of three things:- -a female spirit or supernatural being who rules over a land of ice and snow. -(figurative & frequently derogatory) A cold-hearted and emotionless woman; -(in later use) specifically a woman (especially a beautiful or alluring one) who is regarded as...

    Four clichés in English

Thanks, Neikos! One down & three to go. The Greek equivalents seem less of a cliché than the English. Thanks, 'Man too. Two down & two to go: I seem to be forgetful these days: 'to dumb forgetfulness a prey.... :)
  16. Theseus

    Four clichés in English

    1) off piste: a) away from prepared ski runs. -"off-piste slopes" b) so as to deviate from what is conventional, usual, or expected. -"on this occasion I went off-piste and booked in at The Griffin, a place none of us had ever visited before." 2) I am 'my own person': Do or be what one wishes...

    Healthwise/talentwise/jobwise/moneywise & other aberrations

I should be more careful about punctuation in Greek! The irony is that I've often asked for help with translations from Greek songs where SBE & you have corrected similar mistakes in punctuation to help me translate....:(
  18. Theseus

    Healthwise/talentwise/jobwise/moneywise & other aberrations

Thanks, both. I was sure that I had seen νομίζω used parenthetically. :)
  19. Theseus

    Healthwise/talentwise/jobwise/moneywise & other aberrations

Slight typo in the above: there is no να to be taken with νομίζω, it's simply νομίζω έχω απολαύσει....
  20. Theseus

    She made the angels weep

    Thanks, SBE.:)
