--You poor little boy, you have been in the wars!
But also used jocularly of adults and recently said to my son -married and aged 30 - , who missed Christmas dinner and had to take time off work as well as a result of a stomach bug he got from a holiday in Morocco.

From what I understand, the expression is humorous, but not sarcastic, so it's used in instances where real sympathy is expressed. A suggestion:

Poor Richard, you really have been in the wars! = Καημενούλη μου, καταταλαιπωρήθηκες!​

Another one:

Καημένο μου παιδάκι, τι σου έλαχε!​

Another ironic remark for adults: «Αχ, τι τραβάτε κι εσείς οι χορεύτριες!»

and something not so common but it hints at wars and its irony is easy to get:
«Μαύρη ζωή που κάνετε κι εσείς οι μαύροι κλέφτες!»

Is there an idiom that is something like στραπατσαρισμένος κυκλοφορείς; If so, what does it mean? I love Modern Greek & its unbelievable richness despite attempts to persuade me at university that it was a poor corruption of the pure Attic Greek I was studying. Thanks to all the lexilogists for opening my eyes & disabusing me of such a facile notion!

Λοιπόν, αφενός έχουμε τον ταλαιπωρίδη (κατά τον λυπηρίδη), με συνηθέστερη έκφραση:
"Πού 'σαι ρε ταλαιπωρίδη!" συνοδευόμενη από συμπονετικό πατ πατ στον ώμο.

Αυτό σαν nominalisation

Και φυσικά έχουμε και την Οδύσσεια. Γυρίζω, πχ. από την εφορία, και διηγούμαι τις 5 ώρες τρεξίματος και γραφειοκρατίας που πέρασα για να πάρω το τάδε χαρτί, και ο συνομιλητής μου μου απαντάει:
"Πωωω ρε φιλαράκι, την Οδύσσεια πέρασες!"

Για πιο RPG καταστάσεις, έχω ακούσει ανάλογη έκφραση με φίλο που έγραφε την πτυχιακή του, μετά τη νιοστή απόρριψη από τον ψυχάκια καθηγητή:
"Δαχτυλιδάκια στη Μόρντορ και μαλακίες!"

Όλα τα παραπάνω, βέβαια, χρησιμοποιούνται σε καταστάσεις ταλαιπωρίας, ουχί αρρώστιας, και σε χύμα ρέτζιστερ.
