There's not much to go by, but I'm thinking "valid" here may also imply "credible" (maybe even presumable) as in "there is a well-founded/credible reason (or reasons) to suspect/presume such and such implications/consequences ", but it could also be referring to something that is a "likely" or a "presumable" implication/consequence?

You can have well-founded reasons to presume these/such and such implications, but can you have "well-founded implications" (maybe you can?)?
