To brave the elements is an idiom which is semi-jocular as well as also used hyperbolically. It means to go out in the wind and the rain/stormy weather as in the following example:-
--We've just about run out of food; I'll brave the elements and walk to the store. [This use of elements for atmospheric agencies dates from the early 16th century but is rare today except in this expression].
