The final sentence of the piece I have already asked a question about reads thus: [οι πολιτικοί γάμοι] δεν είχαν τίποτα να ζηλέψουν από τη μεγαλοπρέπεια του θρησκευτικού.
Does this mean civil weddings have just the same advantages as religious ones (a positive comment) or that they cannot rival the grandeur of the religious one (a negative comment)?

ζηλεύω : 1. αισθάνομαι μικρή ή μεγάλη επιθυμία να αποκτήσω και εγώ κάτι που αποτελεί κτήμα, ιδιότητα, προσόν κτλ. άλλων: Tι ζήλεψες, να σου το δώσω. Zήλεψε και πήγε ν΄ αγοράσει κι αυτή το ίδιο φόρεμα. Tο μόνο που δε ζήλεψα ήταν το χρήμα.

Thanks, Daeman. I was a little hesitant about the meaning of από after ζηλεύω, since ζηλεύω seems mainly to take the accusative. The author, although himself a Cypriot Orthodox Christian, gives a very fair account of the advantages of a civil marriage.
