I'm trying to follow the news in Greek and to pick up what I can. I read widely but it doesn't help at all with the spoken language. When the female newsreader asks Giorgos Sarantakos she says 'Is it a tragedy, a.....' What Greek word does she use before Giorgos replies at approx. 0:34 seconds? It sounds like Σωχαριώνωσ' μας.
I try to learn as much as I can if I listen twice or more &, like an illness, it gets better, i obviously get the drift & I can easily read the written account below but I need more practice in listening, as is painfully obvious.
At present I'm proofreading Professor Panos Karayiorgos's yet unpublished Anthology of his Greek to English translations. I also check them by comparison with the original. So I do, despite excursions into abstruse Cretan Mantinades(!), read as widely as I can from ancient to more recent Greek literature, as well all the contemporary stuff I can get my hands on.
Please humour me as much as possible if I seem to stumble on the spoken word.:)
