solid point of controversy

Μήπως μπορείτε να μου εξηγήσετε τι σημαίνει το "solid" σε αυτή τη φράση; "στέρεο", "εμπεριστατωμένο" θέμα αντιπαράθεσης;; Δεν καταλαβαίνω.

Και πάρα πολλά παραδείγματα σύγχρονης χρήσης της αδελφής σύμφρασης "solid point of discussion" εδώ. (ούτε αυτά τα καταλαβαίνω )

Πώς σας φαίνεται η απόδοση "στις πλέον εμπεριστατωμένες και έξοχες αντιπαραθέσεις/συζητήσεις";

... το αντίστοιχο/ισοδύναμο του "points of" (εδώ) ίσως δεν υπάρχει ή δεν μεταφέρετε στα ελληνικά;

Just an observation:
... έξοχες αντιπαραθέσεις= excellent disputes/confrontations που δεν βγάζει νόημα στα αγγλικά (what makes controversies/disputes/confrontations excellent?) - δεν ξέρω τι τρέχει στα ελληνικά.
προτείνω κάτι σαν το "εύλογες αντιπαραθέσεις" (I'm sure there'll be better suggestions) ... which are "excellent/sublime" (in a way) because they are reasonable or well-reasoned/well-argued/have been debated convincingly, etc..?

solid point of controversy = δυνατό/ισχυρό επιχείρημα για αντιπαράθεση;
καλά θεμελιωμένο επιχείρημα για αντιπαράθεση;

so, ...
solid and sublime points of controversy = καλά θεμελιωμένα και εύλογα επιχειρήματα για αντιπαράθεση;

solidest and sublimest points of controversy = πλέον θεμελιωμένα και εύλογα επιχειρήματα για αντιπαράθεση;

"πλέον θεμελιωμένα" is incorrect, of course .... here!

so .... πιο θεμελιωμένα .....

How about this:

ώστε να την αφιερώνουμε στα πιο ακλόνητα (στέρεα, γερά — ίσως επειδή είναι εμπεριστατωμένα) και πιο αξιέπαινα (αξιόλογα, εκλεκτά) επιχειρήματα...

Έχω την εντύπωση πως δεν αναφέρεται σε επιχειρήματα αλλά σε «επίμαχα ζητήματα». Δηλ. νομίζω πως λέει ότι έχουμε επιπλέον την «πολυτέλεια» να αφιερωνόμαστε στα σοβαρότερα και υψηλότερα επίμαχα ζητήματα

Κάπως έτσι μου φαίνεται μεταφράζει σε σύγχρονα αγγλικά και ο κάτωθι:

Ίσως μπορούμε να αποφύγουμε το "επιχείρημα";

points of controversy = (πάνω κάτω)
αντιτιθέμενες απόψεις, αντιπαρατιθέμενες απόψεις, αντικρουόμενες απόψεις, διιστάμενες απόψεις, διαφορετικές απόψεις, αποκλίνουσες απόψεις;

.. και έτσι (περίπου) το ερμήνευσα/κατάλαβα:

.... when the mood/spirit/morale of the people (our nation) is up/boosted, to the point that they (the people) have the faculty/readiness to not only guard/protect their own freedom and safety, but to also allow the most meritorious of opposing/dissenting/diverging views and new ideas (to be discussed and accepted) .. this way (by taking on the best of the controversial new ideas) our nation will not fall into decline, it will be constantly casting off its old skin and (after the temporary pain) renewing/rejuvenating itself and prospering ...

Το σκεφτούμε και από τη δική σου άποψη. Μπορεί να έχεις δίκιο.

(you = the people)

points of controversy = points/areas that you (=the people) don't want to concede; areas that you will fight hard for to maintain?

solidest points of controversy = the most unshakeable areas; the particular areas/points that you are the most adamant about and won't be swayed against?
sublimest points of controversy = the things that you hold in the highest regard that are most valuable to you/ the most important to you?

spare = something you can be generous with and let someone have.
bestow upon = grant/confer the right/yield ground on.

so ...
"spare and bestow upon the solidest and sublimest points of controversy" here could mean "be generous, relax your stance and allow others espousing opposing/dissenting views to have their say/express their opinion in areas that were until now non-negotiable and of utmost value to you?"

Τώρα, για να πώ και το στραβό μου δίκιο, είμαι σχεδόν βέβαιος ότι έχω τα δίκια μου, αλλά δεν το κάνω και θέμα...:wub:

Δηλ. μου φαίνεται σόλοικο να έχουμε κατακτήσει την ειρημένη ελευθερία και τα λοιπά συμπαρομαρτούντα της, και εμείς ακολούθως να παραβγαίνουμε ποιός θα ανεύρει το βασιμότερο και επικρατέστερο επιχείρημα...

Πολύ πιο εύλογο μου μοιάζει, την έτσι κατακτημένη ελευθερία να την χρησιμοποιήσουμε για να αναδιφούμε στα σπουδαία και μεγάλα ζητήματα;) (τα οποία πάντα είναι και αμφιλεγόμενα/διαμαχόμενα/στασιαζόμενα κλπ)
