A dominion, often Dominion, refers to one of a group of autonomous polities that were nominally under British sovereignty, constituting the British Empire and British Commonwealth, beginning in the latter part of the 19th century. They have included (at varying times) Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Newfoundland, the Union of South Africa, and the Irish Free State. Since 1948, the term "dominion" has been used to denote those independent nations of the British Commonwealth that shared with the United Kingdom the same person as their respective monarch. These have included (at varying times) Pakistan, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Kenya, and others, in addition to the earlier dominions. (...) In many cases, these countries soon became republics, thus ending their status as Dominions (for example, India, Pakistan, Kenya, and Nigeria). The United Kingdom and the other remaining monarchies are today referred to as Commonwealth realms.
Συνήθως (π.χ. Βικιπαίδεια) αποδίδεται κτήση ή Κτήση. Πολλές αναφορές δεν βρήκα. Ωστόσο αυτό το Κτήση πέφτει πάνω στο πολύ πιο γενικό possession, και γενικά δεν μου φαίνεται να αποδίδει την ιδιαιτερότητα ενός Dominion σε σχέση με τις υπόλοιπες κτήσεις, που δεν είχαν αυτονομία. Σκέφτηκα λοιπόν τον όρο Κυριότητα, που κατά σύμπτωση στη χριστιανική θεολογία (9 ουράνια τάγματα) αποδόθηκε στα λατινικά ως Dominatio, και αυτή πάλι στα αγγλικά ως Dominion. Από την άλλη διστάζω, μια και θα ήμουν ο πρώτος...
