Vorlage

vorlage
('ˈfɔ:ːlɑ:ːgə, ‖ˈ'foː:rla:ːgə)
[a. Ger. (both senses). Cf. G. vorlegen to lean forward.]
1. a. Skiing. (see quot. 1939.) b. pl. Skiing trousers. Also vorlagers.
1939 Webster Add., Vorlage.‥ A position in which one leans forward from the ankles without lifting the heels from the skis, keeping the body, as a rule, at least perpendicular to the slope. 1958 Vogue Jan. 1 (Advt.), The Winter Sports Shop‥has everything for the skier:‥Luis Ebster designs and cuts the vorlages. Ibid. 35/1 Tattersall checks of black and caramel match caramel vorlagers. 1959 H. Lantschner Ski-ing for Beginners 89 One must‥have the necessary Vorlage to take the weight off the skis when necessary. 1961 Times 27 Nov. 13/2 ‘Tailormade’ vorlagers in a large range of sizes. 1963 C. Glyn Don't knock Corners Off xxii. 184 Our beanies, vorlages, ankle-length tomato coloured pants.
2. An original version of a manuscript or a book from which a copy is produced.
1965 K. Malone in Bessinger & Creed Medieval & Linguistic Stud. 120, I conceive that our scribe copied as heol the hleo of his vorlage. 1975 Times Lit. Suppl. 25 Apr. 462/4 This was first published in a French translation‥in 1930 and was not followed by the Amharic original till more than thirty-five years later.‥ More than one Amharic original was in existence, and the published text was not the Vorlage used for the 1930 French edition.

Από τις δύο σημασίες, με ενδιαφέρει η δεύτερη. Βρίσκω πάμπολλες αναφορές στο Vorlage που χρησιμοποιούσαν οι μεταφραστές των Εβδομήκοντα· πώς το λέμε αυτό; Είναι κάτι σαν «πρότυπο πρωτότυπο»; «Πρότυπο αντίγραφο του πρωτοτύπου»;

εδώ.

Από τις προτεινόμενες μεταφράσεις προς τα αγγλικά θα έλεγα ότι εδώ είναι πιο σχετικές οι Vorlage (prototype of a text) :), prototype και (δευτερευόντως) οι master και source material. Π.χ.

Every translation is an interpretation. As a translation of a Hebrew Vorlage, the Septuagint too ineluctably shows traces of interpretation.

Complete Induction for the Identification of the Vocabulary in the Greek Versions of the Old Testament with Its Semitic Equivalents: Its Necessity and the Means of Obtaining It, Max L. Margolis, Journal of the American Oriental Society, Vol. 30, No. 4 (Sep., 1910), pp. 301-312:

The First Lagardian Canon is thus a rule for identifying the Greek with the Semitic, the Greek text, buried at present in a mass of variants, with the great unknown quantity, the " Vorlage," with which the prototype of the received Masoretic text was by no means wholly idendical (sic).

Review: Commentary to the Germanic Laws and Mediaeval Documents by Leo Wiener, R. Priebsch, The Modern Language Review, Vol. 12, No. 1 (Jan., 1917), pp. 113-119:

Again, Wiener promises a textual investigation of the MSS. He certainly devotes a page (xliii to xliv) to the Ambrosian Fragments, but not a word is said about the'Gothic Calendar of Thracian origin at the time of Theodosius, the Great, contained in Ambrosian A. Now, we can understand that such a document with its mention of local festival days might have been copied from an older 'Vorlage' (Gothic Bible + Calendar) among the Goths in Italy at about 500 A.D. or a few decades later, but it would be very puzzling to account for its appearance in a ninth-century Gothic Bible copy made in Southern France, the original of which was, in the opinion of Prof. Wiener, itself not older than about 800 A.D. Is this difficulty the reason of his silence?
