I do not know how comfortable you (or some friends of yours) are, working long hours in front of a screen with white background and black letters. My aging eye has had increasing problems. There are several solutions, and one of these which has been suggested and works for me is:

1. Unzip to a folder of your choice
2. Double-click on NegativeScreenX86.exe to run (don't run the plain NegativeScreen.exe unless you have 64bit).
3. The toggle to turn the inversion ON/OFF is: LeftWindowsKey Alt (Hold both) + N
4. If you halt programme for some reason by Win+Alt+H (as described in the Readme), you will need to re-run the .exe (per item 2 above).
5. Either create a link on Desktop or add the programme to your Start list.
Readme says turn Aero on, however it works here on Vista without turning it on.
A further improvement can be got by adopting the High Contrast White Color Scheme as default. You can even create a custom "theme"with link on desktop to toggle back/forth to "normal".
Maybe someone finds this useful too.
