Το mankini στο νέο Collins

Όταν το BBC διαλέγει την παρακάτω φωτογραφία με το mankini του Μπόρατ για να εικονογραφήσει τη διαδικτυακή σελίδα του σχετικά με την κυκλοφορία του νέου Collins English Dictionary, νιώθω λιγότερο άγχος που μας προβάλλουν άλλοι τόποι (εν προκειμένω το slang.gr) για τις λεξιλογικές μας προτάσεις για το glory hole (και, αλήθεια, ποια παραδοσιακά (mainstream) αγγλικά λεξικά περιέχουν την επίμαχη σημασία του σύμπλοκου);

Το apodeictic (unquestionably true by virtue of demonstration και επομένως όχι αποδεικτικός) δεν πρέπει να αφαιρεθεί για να προλάβουμε να το προσθέσουμε στα λήμματα με τις ψευδόφιλες λέξεις.

Εδώ http://www.harpercollins.co.uk/News_and_Events/News/Pages/New-Entries-in-Collins-Concise.aspx γράφει επίσης για προσθήκες, αλλά στο Concise English Dictionary. Δεν είναι όμως πολύ πιθανό, αφού συμπεριλήφθηκαν στο Concise, να τις δούμε και στο "μεγάλο" CED;

Collins Dictionaries are able to monitor all new words coming into the language round the world through its unique Bank of English, a 500-million-word database (να 'μαστε πάλι με το πλήθος των λέξεων:rolleyes:). Using the Bank of English, Collins is able to identify new words and meanings, and thereby linguistic and social trends, at the touch of a button. The database is continuously updated by Collins dictionaries and the University of Birmingham from sources including books, newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, websites, journals and conversations.

Κι εδώ ένας ενδιαφέρων προβληματισμός που βρήκα τυχαία, σχετικά με το αν το -- πολυσυζητημένο, τελικά -- meh (an interjection to suggest indifference or boredom, που διαδόθηκε μέσω των Simpsons) πρέπει να συμπεριληφθεί στο λεξικό ή όχι.

Meanwhile, the makers of dictionaries try their best, but they're still a bit unsure of how to handle interjections.
Nonetheless, quite a lot of them have entered the major dictionaries. I did a quick search of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and found 163 interjections listed. Here they are for your enjoyment.
achoo, adios, ah, aha, ahem, ahoy, alack, alas, alleluia, all hail, aloha, amen, attaboy, auf Wiedersehen, aw, ay, bah, begorra, bejabbers, bejesus, bingo, bleep, boo, by, bye-bye, cheerio, cheers, ciao, crikey, criminy, cripes, dear, duh, eek, egad, eh, er, eureka, faugh, fie, fore, gad, gadzooks, gar, gardyloo, gee, gee whiz, gesundheit, glory, golly, gosh, gramercy, ha, ha-ha, hail, hallelujah, haw, heads up, heigh-ho, hem, hep, hey, heyday, hey presto, hi, hip, hist, ho, ho hum, hollo, hooray, hoot, hosanna, hot dog, howdy, hoy, huh, humph, hup, hut, jeepers, jeepers creepers, jeez, jingo, la, lackaday, lo, lo and behold, Lordy, marry, mazel tov, my word, od, oh, ooh, oops, ouch, ow, oy, pardie, phew, phooey, pip-pip, pish, poof, pooh, presto, prithee, prosit, pshaw, quotha, rah, rats, righto, roger, selah, sh, shalom, sheesh, shoo, shoot, shucks, so long, ta-ta, touche, tsk, tush, tut, tut-tut, ugh, uh-huh, uh-oh, uh-uh, um, view halloo, viva, voila, waesucks, wahoo, welcome, well, wellaway, whee, whoopee, why, wilco, wirra, wisha, woe, wow, yahoo, yech, yikes, yippee, yo, yoicks, yoo-hoo, yuck, yum-yum, zap, zooks, zounds, zowie

To pseudocide (και το pseudocidal) λημματογραφούνται στο OTD.

Για το fisk, από το επίμαχο (Lexicographers prefer a mankini) που αναφέρει ο Νίκελ στο #1:
Journalist Robert Fisk, whose often controversial stories have been intensively targeted by critics, has inspired the slang term "fisk" - meaning to refute or criticise an article point by point.
He told the BBC: "The internet has created a new hatred."

mandals = a combination of "man" and "sandals"; men's leather sandals are supposedly effeminate and unfashionable.

Mankini, no thanks! Λες να είμαι unfashionable? Meh...
