Το έχω σε commentary ταινίας. Μιλάνε για τη Σάλι Φιλντ που παίζει τη θεία του Σπάιντερμαν στην ταινία. Όλος ο διάλογος είναι:

And there she is. Everyone's Aunt May. Sets the muster. The spectacular Sally Field.

Η έκφραση δεν υπάρχει στο Γκουγκλ. Βλέπουμε βέβαια Charlemagne did not set the muster in a place that would permit the Carolingian army to advance through the Chur passes. Αλλά αυτό δεν έχει καμιά σχέση με αυτό που έχω στον υπότιτλο, επειδή είναι προφανώς κυριολεκτικό. Η μεταφορική έννοια μού διαφεύγει.

Δεν ξέρω αν βοηθάει, αλλά Muster στα γερμανικά (και ενδεχομένως, στα γίντις) είναι (και) το πρότυπο. Νοηματικά, κολλάει. Η ηθοποιός θέτει πρότυπο. Τώρα, αν η φράση χρησιμοποιείται σε ειδικό ιδιόλεκτο...

It probably means .... she "sets the standard" (against which others are measured, i.e., Sally Field "sets the bar high").

Sets the muster is definitely not a standard phrase, but I'm relying somewhat on the following definition for "pass muster", to divine its meaning.

In the other example, Charlemagne did not "set the muster" - I think this means he didn't designate a mustering point, a meeting place where his troops can gather/assemble together - it sounds like he didn't mobilise them for action/a battle.

Επίσης, δεν αποκλείεται αυτό το muster να είναι master, με την έννοια του prototype, του πρότυπου που λέει ο δόκτωρ. Αλλά master στα αγγλικά. Και ούτε έτσι είναι συνηθισμένος ιδιωματισμός.

Συμφωνώ με τον pontios - είναι προφανώς μπέρδεμα των φράσεων set the standard και pass muster.

Μήπως θέλει να πει ότι είναι κάτι σαν αρχηγική, ηγετική φυσιογνωμία; Ότι διευθύνει, δίνει διαταγές και δύσκολα αμφισβητείται;
(εδώ δεν ταιριάζει, αλλά σε πιο χιουμοριστικό πλαίσιο, την έλεγες και γενικό δερβέναγα)
