This idiom means used something that is not a typical or good example of something:
--He managed to make a curtain of sorts out of an old sheet.
Is the Greek phrase κάτι που ο θεός να καμει [fill in with the appropriate word] adaptable to any context? Or is there a commoner & more useful expression? :) :)

ένα είδος + γενική (ένα είδος κουρτίνας - not the typical kind of curtain)

κάτι σαν + αιτιατική (κάτι σαν κουρτίνα - not really a curtain, but similar in functionality)
