Βρήκα σε ένα βιβλίο το "reference frame", σε συμφραζόμενα φυσικής, να αποδίδεται ως "πλαίσιο αναφοράς". Με ξένισε πολύ, όχι μόνο γιατί η καθιερωμένη απόδοση είναι "σύστημα (συντεταγμένων) αναφοράς", αλλά νομίζω επίσης και γιατί το "πλαίσιο αναφοράς" είναι μια παγιωμένη και αρκετά διαδεδομένη φράση εκτός φυσικής. Πρέπει δε να έχει ενδιαφέρουσα ιστορία.

Με λίγο ψάξιμο κατέληξα ότι το πλαίσιο αναφοράς πρέπει να είναι όντως μεταφραστικό δάνειο του reference frame, το οποίο reference frame γεννήθηκε μεν μέσα από τις φυσικές θεωρίες του τέλους του 19ου αιώνα αλλά μετά την επιτυχία της θεωρίας της σχετικότητας έγινε πολύ δημοφιλής φράση και άρχισε να χρησιμοποιείται και εκτός φυσικής. Από αυτές τις χρήσεις πρέπει να πήραμε εμείς τη φράση, ενώ στη φυσική ακολουθήσαμε την γαλλική ή την γερμανική ορολογία.
(Διευκρινίζω ότι όλα αυτά είναι απλώς υποθέσεις και τα θέτω προς συζήτηση, δεν έκανα καμιά σοβαρή έρευνα.)

Καλημέρα. Για τη φυσική δεν ξέρω να σου πω και οι αναφορές του OED για το frame of reference και το reference frame δεν πάνε νωρίτερα από το 1921.

Under frame:
(ii) fig. and transf. (Always as frame of reference.) A set of standards, beliefs, or assumptions governing perceptual or logical evaluation or social behaviour.
