Τα GWord και Polylexicon δίνουν για τη συγκεκριμένη χρήση τού habitat το «φυσικό περιβάλλον». Αλλά κάποιες έγκυρες πηγές επιμένουν ότι habitat = βιότοπος. Το RHWUD δίνει διαφορετικό ορισμό για το habitat (the natural environment of an organism; place that is natural for the life and growth of an organism: a tropical habitat) και το biotope (a portion of a habitat characterized by uniformity in climate and distribution of biotic and abiotic components, as a tidal pool or a forest canopy). Και η βίκη σχολιάζει σχετικά: Biotope is almost synonymous with the term habitat, but while the subject of a habitat is a species or a population, the subject of a biotope is a biological community. Άρα διατηρώ την απόδοση «φυσικό περιβάλλον» για το habitat, ή το κάνω «βιότοπος»; Η συγκεκριμένη χρήση στο κείμενο που έχω μπροστά μου είναι απόλυτα σύμφωνη με τη λογική ότι αφορά το είδος, όχι την κοινότητα.
